WHAT WE BELIEVE.

WHAT WE BELIEVE.

  • Jesus

Jesus is the revelation of God (John 1:1, 14:6-7; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:2). There is no way of knowing God apart from Him (1 John 2:23). All things were created by Him and for Him (Romans 11:36; Colossians 1:16). He is the promised Messiah of the Old Testament scriptures (Isaiah 53; John 5:39). He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29; 1 John 2:2). He took on flesh in order to die and be raised (Ephesians 4:10). He is King of kings and Lord of lords and holds all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18; Philippians 2:9-11; Revelation 19:16). He is Judge and Ruler over all creation (Acts 10:42; 2 Timothy 4:1).

  • Salvation

Salvation describes freedom from sin results in eternal life. It is not earned but received as we surrender to Jesus Christ. We are saved not by our own good works, but by completely placing our faith in the work of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Our faith in Jesus is counted as righteousness before God (Romans 4:3-5). Believing the gospel is necessary for salvation, because the good news about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Our salvation is worked out as we become increasingly obedient to Jesus (Philippians 2:12-13).

  • The Work of the Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in the life a believer, for it is God Himself living in us (John 14:23; 2 Corinthians 6:16). The Spirit of God was promised by Jesus to all who believe in Him (John 7:38-39). He is described as the Helper; the One who walks beside us, teaches us, corrects us, and reveals to us the Word of God (John 14:26, 16:13). He gives Christians supernatural gifts that reveal the power of God and edify the church (1 Corinthians 12:7). He works in us the character of Christ, otherwise known as the 'fruit of the Spirit' (Galatians 5:22-23). The gift of the Holy Spirit is the assurance and confirmation of our salvation in Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38-39; Romans 8:16; Ephesians 1:13-14).

  • The Church

The Church is comprised of all believers from every tribe, language, and nation (Revelation 7:9). That is to say, it is made up of every person around the world that has believed in the name of Jesus and received His Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). The church is referred to as both the body (Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 10:17, 12:27; Ephesians 4:4, 5:30), and bride of Christ (John 3:29; Revelation 19:7, 21:9, 22:17). The New Testament word for church; ekklesia, does not refer to a building, but the congregation or assembly of God's people (Matthew 16:18; Hebrews 10:25). Every believer has a role in Christ's church (1 Corinthians 12) and some have been called by God for leadership (Ephesians 4:11-13).

  • The Bible

The Bible is a collection of writings penned down by humans, yet completely inspired of God (2 Peter 1:20-21). It is God's word to us in human language. Because the scriptures come from God and not man; they are inerrant, infallible, and authoritative over our lives (James 1:22). Jesus affirmed that God's word was true (John 17:17). All scripture is "God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible contains everything we need to know to be saved (2 Timothy 3:15). It is living and active (Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:23). God's word will stand forever and will completely accomplish everything that He has spoken (Isaiah 40:8, 55:11).

  • The Future

At the present we live in a world stricken by sin, but it will not stay this way forever (Genesis 1-3; Revelation 21:5). Jesus has overcome sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). His resurrection declares Him as the Messiah and King over the whole world (Acts 2:24-36). His kingdom cannot be shaken (Isaiah 9:6-7; Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45; 1 Corinthians 15:24-25; Hebrews 12:28). One day the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord (Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14) and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:9-10). Jesus is coming back in the same way that He ascended (Acts 1:11) and will separate His people from those who have rejected Him (John 5:25-29). Those who reject Christ will spend eternity apart from the presence of God (Hell), while His people will receive eternal life with Him (Revelation 21).
